ECOSAFE bridges are composite pedestrian of vehicular bridges that are designed by Lightweight Structures B.V. based on the Dutch standards NEN 6788, NEN 6723, NEN 6702 and NEN 6706 and the Dutch composite design guideline CUR 96. The composite parts are manufactured with vacuum infusion. We have several designs available for different spans, widths, heights and loads. If you give us your requirements, we will send you a quotation as soon as possible!

Project: pedestrian bridge in Delft
In assignment of the municipality of Delft, Netherlands a Dutch consortium consisting of Lightweight Structures B.V. (detailed engineering and manufacturing of the composite structure), Groot Lemmer B.V. (detailed design, assembly, hand rails and stairs) and Nebest B.V. (project management and design) constructed a composite pedestrian bridge, crossing the Provinciale Weg near the Stanislas College, December 2007.

The total length of the bridge is 44 m. The biggest span of the bridge is 13.5 m and the width is 1.5 m. Willembart Savelkoel made the architectural design. The composite bridge will replace a concrete (and temporary steel) bridge using the existing foundation. The municipality of Delft asked Nebest B.V. to design a new pedestrian bridge for this site and to compare a composite design to steel and concrete. The evaluation was based on overall life-cycle costs. The main advantages of the composite structure were the fast delivery, low maintenance costs and the use of the existing foundation with minimum adjustments.

Due to its effective structure, optimised for manufacturing by means of vacuum infusion, the composite concept of Lightweight Structures B.V. came out best of the evaluation on overall costs. Nebest B.V. was consequently assigned the project of the realisation. The load-bearing structure will consist of 2 segments of 22 m of a glass fibre reinforced vinylester (Atlac E-Nova, DSM Composites Resins), U-shaped girder and a deck, both manufactured with vacuum infusion, the core competence of Lightweight Structures B.V. and bonded by an adhesive (Neobond, DSM Composite Resins).

Project: pedestrian bridge in Moscow In assignment of the municipality of Moscow ApATeCh Ltd in Moscow, Russian Federation, designed a full composite pedestrian bridge. ApATeCh asked Lightweight Structures B.V. to assist them in structural engineering, FE analysis and production technology (vacuum infusion) to build the bridge. In joint co-operation the bridge was constructed in the 50 years Anniversary of October revolution Park in Moscow, in 2008. The bridge (22.6 by 2.8 meters) is completely built from composite materials, including the handrails that are translucent and lit by night. It weighs approx. 4.5 tonnes. The successful project has lead to an exclusive co-operation between ApATeCh and Lightweight Structures B.V. in Russian countries.
Project: pedestrian bridge in Utrecht
The city of Utrecht ordered a composite pedestrian bridge (but also for emergency vehicles) from Aannemersbedrijf Damsteegt B.V. which partners with Lightweight Structures B.V. for the composite parts. This bridge was constructed 29 April 2010. Damsteegt and Lightweight Structures B.V. are also involved in a number of bridge deck projects, for example in the city of Voorschoten.
